Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative
Membership Update
March 5, 2013

A note from Sandra Jones, Co-Founder and Director:

It was February of 2004 when PAREI officially began a community wide effort to do our part in addressing our country’s need to reduce the amount of fossil fuel used on a daily basis. At that time gasoline prices were $1.75 a gallon.  Since then we have watched Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy become household words.....and by some household actions!  Eight years ago it wasn’t common to see businesses touting their green practices, articles in magazines about clever ways to save energy or numerous solar panels on homes in the Pemi Baker Valley. Today it sure is!  So much is happening when it comes to energy. We have massive wind turbines in our view shed, the possibility of power lines carrying energy to others that may not be working hard enough to use less of it and our president considering allowing 800,000 barrels of oil a day to flow through an expanded pipeline from Canada.  Wow!  What do we ask? We ask PAREI members and friends to stay the course.  We believe we can make a strong impact if we continue to reduce and produce energy, one building, one home, one community at a time.  Thank you to everyone for renewing your memberships and supporting PAREI and Local Foods Plymouth.  We urge you all to continue to seek out our services to reach your energy related goals.

Craig Cadieux, PAREI Energy Solutions Manager, conducts field exams for Energy Auditors in training several times a year for the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Lakes Region Community College.  These exams need to be conducted in homes that are not familiar to the examinees.  Craig is looking for homes to conduct these exams and is seeking members who are willing to volunteer their homes for these exams in exchange for an introductory energy audit which will include blower door testing,  heating system  safety testing, and an evaluations of your home’s building envelope.

Home owners may be present during the exam as observers.  Exams are usually a full day but sometimes half days for up to 4 students one at a time.
